What should a painter and decorator website include?

A good painter and decorator website should lead with before-and-after photos of finished rooms, name every service — interior, exterior, wallpapering and woodwork — show the proof and credentials a homeowner recognises, and give people a clear, unhurried way to ask for a quote.

  • Before-and-after, front and centre

A tired room beside the finished one is the most persuasive thing a decorator can show. People book the transformation, not the dust sheets — so you set the before beside the after and let the change do the talking.

  • Every service named the way people search

Interior redecoration, exterior repaints, wallpapering, woodwork and specialist finishes — each is its own search and its own page, so someone after a papered hallway lands on exactly that, not a vague "painting" page.

  • Proof, not just a promise

Anyone can buy a brush and a van and call themselves a decorator. What sets you apart is evidence — real finished rooms, tidy edges, a clean cut-in — shown plainly enough that a stranger is comfortable letting you into their home.

  • The badges a homeowner knows

A Dulux Select Decorator badge or a Painting and Decorating Association membership means something to a customer choosing who to let into their home. Where you hold them, they sit where they will be seen — never buried on an about page.

  • An easy way to ask for a quote

Decorating is planned, not panicked, so the quote is the moment that matters. A short enquiry — which rooms, interior or exterior, roughly when — reads better than a bare form, with your phone number on every page for those who would rather call.

  • The areas you actually cover

A decorator will travel for the right job but not for every touch-up, so a customer wants to know they are in range before they ring. Name your base and the areas you work, plainly, so the enquiries that arrive are ones worth quoting.

Decorating is bought on the strength of the finish. A customer picturing their own hallway or living room wants to see a room like theirs, done well — which is why the before-and-after gallery carries more weight here than it does for almost any other trade. A Victorian cottage exterior and a modern kitchen repaint are different jobs to different customers; naming both, with the work to match, is what turns a browse into an enquiry.

Every painter and decorator website we build carries all six — that is the starting structure, not an upgrade.

An example painter and decorator website.

This is our Surrey painter and decorator demo — the structure we build for decorating businesses, finished: named pages for interior and exterior work, a recent-work gallery and the Dulux Select Decorator badge on show.

Painter & Decorator — Surrey

EXAMPLE BUILD

For a painter and decorator, we build around interior and exterior work, wallpapering, recent projects and decorator accreditation.

  • Interior & exterior painting
  • Wallpapering
  • Woodwork & trim
  • Recent-projects gallery
  • Dulux Select Decorator
  • Public liability insurance
  • Tap-to-call contact
  • Quote requests

Proof a homeowner recognises.

We make the qualifications and memberships you actually hold easy for customers to see.

Decorating has no legal register to point to, so a careful customer looks for the marks they recognise — the ones that say a decorator has been checked, not just self-declared — before letting someone into their home.

The one customers know

Dulux Select Decorators

The decorating badge a homeowner recognises on sight — members are assessed and approved by Dulux before they can carry it, and back their work with a workmanship guarantee.

How it can appear on your site

Dulux Select Decoratoryour membership, shown here

Shown near the top of your site and beside your services — only where you hold the membership.

  • Painting and Decorating Association

The UK trade association for the painting and decorating industry, with a code of practice its members work to.

  • TrustMark

The government-endorsed quality scheme for work in and around the home.

  • Public liability insurance

Cover a customer expects before work starts in their home — your site states it plainly, where you hold it.

None of these are ours to hand out — you earn them, and plenty of good decorators hold only some. We show the ones you do hold, where a customer will see them.

Decorator questions, answered.

Most of my work comes from word of mouth — do I need a website?

That is exactly when a website earns its keep. When someone passes your name on, the first thing the next person does is look you up — to see your finished rooms and check you are a real, tidy professional before they let you into their home. A recommendation opens the door; your website is what convinces them to book.

Where do the before-and-after photos come from?

Your own jobs, ideally — a room you transformed is worth more than any stock photo. Where you don't have good before-and-after shots yet, we start with professional trade photography, and you swap in your real work whenever you like, straight from your phone.

Can I show before-and-after photos of a room?

Yes — pairing the tired before with the finished after is the most persuasive thing a decorator can put on a site, so put both in your gallery. Add a new pair from your phone after a job, and the transformation helps sell the next one.

I do both interior and exterior work — can the site cover both?

Yes. Interior redecoration and exterior repaints are different jobs to different customers, so each gets its own page, named the way people search for it. Add wallpapering, woodwork or specialist finishes the same way — you choose your services when you sign up.

Can I update the site myself once it is live?

Yes — add photos of a finished room straight from your phone, and make simple edits like wording, contact details or a new service, whenever you like. Anything bigger, send it over in plain words and a real person makes the change for you.

How quickly can my website be ready?

Usually within 2–3 days of you sending us your details. We build it, you review the finished site, and it only goes live once you are happy — you see it before you pay a penny.
